Are We There Yet?

Posted 6/25 at 12:30 PM

I gave myself a headache yesterday after I read my 3,276th NBA Draft article. Seriously, over the past two weeks, I’ve probably spent more time with Chad Ford than I have with my friends. I’ve checked hoopshype.com more times than I’ve brushed my teeth. Over the last two weeks, I’ve been convinced that the Grizzlies would draft Kevin Love, work out a 3-team trade with Minnesota and Miami, trade down with New York, Portland or Phoenix, draft Eric Gordon or trade some combination of Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry, Mike Miller, the #5 pick, and/or the #28 pick for the #2 pick, Daequan Cook, Mark Blount, Udonis Haslem and/or Marcus Banks.

After reading all of this speculation, I’ve come to the following conclusion: For the next 30 hours or so, no one that really knows what’s going to happen. It’s pretty safe to say that even Pat Riley and Chris Wallace don’t know just yet.

There’s still the chance, although slight, that Michael Beasley gets drafted first overall. No one seems to even mention this anymore. There’s a chance the Grizzlies work out a trade with the Heat. I’m sure a lot of Grizzlies fans would love to see this. I’m in the camp that thinks we shouldn’t have to give up both Mike Conley and the #5 pick in order to get Michael Beasley. I also wouldn’t mind seeing the Grizzlies trade down a few spots if the first four picks are Rose, Beasley, Mayo and Love.

As both a Grizzlies fan and University of Memphis alumnus, I’m more excited about this draft than ever before. I think it’d be cool to see Derrick Rose called first by David Stern. After that, my attention turns to the Grizzlies, as we wait and see what the future holds after the dust settles on the first 10 picks (and potential trades). I’ll sit back and hope that somehow CDR falls to the Grizzlies at #28. I’m interested to see where Joey Dorsey lands as well. More than anything, I’m ready for the draft to come and go, so I can start reading 3,000 different reviews. I’m think I’m finally done with the previews.

  1. NO CDR when he is available at #28. This management is an embarassment. The Syracuse player will sell a lot of tickets. (right)
Memphis is my home but I will not be at the Forum. Whoever is making the decisions obviously doesn’t care.

  3. I think it was stupid to get rid of Mike Miller.  He is the best player that we have.  Are the owners trying to ruin this team?  Do they always want to be a losing team?  I hope they know what they are doing because I cant see any logic in this.

  4. The grizzlies picked up Antoine Walker’s hefty contract. Smart move. These guys are idiots. And you know it just occurred to me, they really dont know anything about basketball. This is something they do in their spare time.

  5. antoine has been a bust since about the second year in the league. he fails to show up except for lunch and the paycheck. o.j. is a really good player and should do what miller couldn’t. score the big bucket and play perimeter defense. lot’s of guards looking for playing time will be a bad mix. but it’s a move in the right direction

  6. i think that getting these new veterns in will help the younger guys get in the jel of the NBA. i think trading those players for O.J. Mayo was a great trade and he should sell tickets for Memphis this season
